Sunday Mourning Dress = MAJOR FAIL

Remember this dress?

Well I had the dress pretty much finished, all I needed was to add the zipper and hem it. Last night, I had gotten around to sewing the zipper. I was all excited and immediately tried it on! Well somehow the bodice ended up being 2 sizes too big and the skirt wouldn't even go over my hips! I blame it on the zipper because before I added it, it fit fine. I was soo upset, I threw the dress somewhere in the back of my closet. I didn't even bother taking a picture of it >:/

I'm sure I'll take the dress out and fix it one day, but for now, I would rather not look it!

Has something like that happened to you before?

  1. Yes, my 1920's dress has been sitting for awhile. I am sure you are pretty frustrated with all the value time and money spent. I hope the next project you do is a win for you.

  2. YES! A dress I made that also said 'simple to make' (which I think somehow curses the project)...the bodice was HUGE and it looked completely dowdy. I revisited it a year later and made tons of adjustments (took up the shoulders, sewed two extra darts in the back, took up the hem, etc.) and it fits great now...but I definitely couldn't look at the dress for a long time!!

  3. Gina: Well Luckily the fabric came from my mom's stash, so all I really paid for was the zipper and pattern. Thank you! I'm starting on a new dress today, so I hope it turns out alright! (:

Debi: haha now I'm scared of those simple to make patterns! I have no idea how I could possibly fix my dress, but I'm sure I'll figure it out once the time comes!

  4. Yep, this has definitely happened to me before...I'm sure it must happen to everyone! I think the best thing to do is what you did...put it out of your sight for a while until you feel ready to tackle it again ;o)
